Teenage Pregnancy – Story ( May 2023 )
Sadly, teenage pregnancies seem to be on the increase in our communities. We regularly have schools, families reaching out to us for assistance with pregnant teenage girls. A 17 year old school girl approached us for help, she had been raised by a single unemployed Mom and grew up poverty. She felt hopeless and vulnerable. Our Pregnancy centre helped her to get a identity document for herself and once she had her baby she was able to obtain a birth certificate and access the SASSA social welfare grant.
She attended our antenatal classes and so knew what to expect during childbirth and how to care for her baby. We were able to assist her with food parcels and baby clothing. Ethembeni has become her support system while she has been going through this vulnerable time in her life.
She feels supported and therefore, it was easier for her to bond with her baby and be a confident mother.
